I went to a
Pedal Power meeting last night. It was a special
"What will politicians do? ACT Election issues" meeting so there was senior state representatives from the 4 major parties. Overall all the parties want to continue the good work already done, so there wasn't too much difference between them. The Greens did state they would divert money from a drag strip to other activities including cycling.
The best received question from the audience was about police attitudes to cyclist that are hit by cars. Currently, if a car hits a cyclist, very little is done by the police unless the cyclist is killed. This seems unbalanced considering the risks that the cyclist takes compared to the cage protected car driver.
A lot of other issues were about advocacy, cultural change and getting the participation rates up.
It was a good night and it was great to see Ben and Lisa again.
