I got a new GPS with the heart rate monitor. Used it for the first time in anger this morning for my ride into work. The heart rate signal dropped out a couple of times so I need to tune where I place the strap. The device comes with a brochure for some software called Motion Based. It's pretty neat software which allows you to upload your track to their web site, then analyze it and share with friends. It's much like the Sportsim software I'd used before but allows you to share it with others more easily. Anyway, I've uploaded my morning run which can be view
here. You'll need IE and the Adobe SVG viewer plugin (x86 Linux Mozilla beta available as well) for some parts.
Something like this would be a great open source project. Maps from Google Maps and talking to the GPS with standard NMEA sentences should make it a relatively simple project.
