We went to see
Missy Higgins last night. Jo and I first saw her when she toured with
The Waifs about 18 months ago. Then it was just her and a piano but we really enjoyed her music and ended up getting both her singles. Much has happened to her since then. She released her album and now she's the headline act. She's a fantastic writer and her lyrics are always very interesting to analyse but for this concert what really impressed me was her ability to evolve her music. She had a band with her, with the lead guitarist being
Josh Cunningham from
The Waifs. She seems to have coped well with changing some of her songs to deal with having a backing band. Some of her songs don't deal well with too much backing (eg. Special two), but she did find a good mix. I think her next album will be interesting now that she's headline toured. Hopefully she'll write more songs which she and the band can have more fun with.
Another review
here (including the support acts,
Serena Ryder and Dave Macdonald) and I'm sure
BCG will have a review soon (I'm predicting
Alanis Morissette and
Serena Ryder will be used in the same sentence on many occasions).
